A coverage represents a defined geographic area where orders can be served and delivered. It allows you to control which drivers operate in which zones, ensuring efficient dispatching, better route planning, and accurate order assignment.
Once a coverage is created, you can assign one or multiple drivers to it based on your operational needs. This allows only the selected drivers to receive and fulfill orders within that specific coverage.
This article explains everything that has to do with assigning drivers to a coverage.
⚠️ Important Note
Coverage zones are only enforced when shipments are automatically assigned to drivers using the Routing Engine within the Plans module. In this case, coverage zones act as constraints that guide the routing engine when deciding which driver should handle each shipment.
When shipments are assigned manually, these coverage zones can be overridden. This means that a driver — even if assigned to a specific coverage zone — can still be manually assigned to a shipment whose destination falls outside of their defined coverage zone.
How to Assign Drivers to a Coverage
To assign drivers to a coverage, follow the steps below:
From your FleetRunnr portal, click on “Fleet” in the dashboard.
From the left-side dashboard, click on “Coverage.”
Inside the list of created coverages to the left side of your page, locate the coverage you want to assign drivers to. Click the “Edit” button next to the intended coverage’s name.
From the icons that appear, click the Drivers icon (represented by multiple person heads), located before the checkmark button.
A window will open to the right of the screen. Inside this window, click on “Add drivers”.
A window will then open in the middle of the screen, allowing you to select from your drivers. To locate the intended driver(s) faster you can:
→ Search for specific drivers using the search bar
→ Filter drivers based on: Groups, Vehicle, Status, Skills
Select the intended Driver(s) by checking the checkboxes to the left of their names.
Once you select the desired driver(s), click “Add Selected” at the bottom right of drivers list window.
Click the “Save changes” button inside the initial window.
As a final step, and after defining the coverage zone(s), click the checkmark icon next to the coverage name in the entry to save your changes.
This will apply your changes and assign the selected driver(s) to the corresponding coverage.
Additional Notes
You can also assign drivers while creating a coverage, before saving it. This allows you to fully configure the coverage — including its assigned drivers — in a single step during setup.
You can update the assigned drivers at any time by adding or removing drivers from a coverage, allowing you to adapt to operational changes whenever needed.
